When properly installed, ergonomic chairs can benefit employees of all ages by encouraging good posture and reducing the risk of sustaining muscle strains and back injuries. They are not, however, completely harmless to the employee’s body. If an employee spends a considerable amount of time sitting in an uncomfortable and inferior quality office chair, then this will have a negative effect on his or her overall health and productivity levels. In comparison, a low quality desk will place too much pressure on the lower back and may force an individual to lean forwards. This places a great amount of strain on the lower spine. Many low quality ergonomic desk and chairs are known to have bad shock absorbers. These chairs will absorb a great amount of shock, when a person sits down at their desk or chair. However, if you are working at an office where the chairs are regularly used, this is less likely to be an issue.
