Five-Card Draw has been around for quite a while and since it still has a lot of popularity, more and more people want to learn how to play the challenging, yet fun game. If you are one of those people who want to learn how to play Five-Card Draw the simply keep reading.

The very first step is to find an open table, whether in a casino, with the buddies or even online. Just like with every other style of poker, there is going to be a dealer; the dealer position will usually rotate around the table so that one person does not have to deal the whole time. With other variations of poker, blinds are used to get the match started. However, with Five-Card Draw, and “ante” is usually used instead. An ante is basically a small bet made by each player before the match begins.

Once everyone has thrown their ante into the pot, the dealer will then deal five cards to each person face down; the dealer will start dealing to the left. Once the five cards are dealt, the players will examine what they have been dealt, being careful not to expose what they have to other players.

Once the five cards have been dealt, a round of betting will ensue. The person directly to the left of the dealer will have the “action” responsibility; basically this means that particular player must either bet or check (pass the bet to the next person). Once the first bet has been made, the next player can either call (evenly match the original bet), raise (increase the bet) or fold (quit that particular match).

After the first initial round of betting, each player has the option of exchanging either one, two or three cards from their hand with new cards from the deck. If a player has an ace in his or possession, then that player can exchange up to four cards for four new cards. Take for example, if your hand consisted of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and a seven, and you wanted exchange the seven in hopes of getting a ten for a straight; that is perfectly fine.

After all of the exchanges were made, then another round of betting will follow. The pot may increase dramatically due to players potentially putting together a good hand and wanting to bet more. If after you have exchanged your cards and still cannot put together a strong hand or even a hand at all, then folding may be the best option. However, if you have an exceptional hand then making a more substantial bet may add to your favor because it will increase the winnings if you win.
